We recently completed concrete cancer repairs to an Art Deco style home in Carnegie, helping to preserve the character of this older property.
THE PROJECT
This project involved repairing concrete cancer around the original cast iron window frames of the Carnegie home. The windo frames had been cast into the brickwork and had deteriorated over time, affecting the surrounding concrete.
The work focused on repairing the damaged areas while retaining the character of the older building and preparing it for the new windows.
Removing Old Windows
The original cast iron windows had been built into the brickwork and had cracked and broken over the years. The windows were carefully removed to allow access to the damaged concrete and reinforcement.
Treating the Reinforcement
The exposed reinforcement was cleaned and treated to address the rust before the concrete repairs were carried out.
Rebuilding the Damaged Areas
The affected areas were rebuilt using an HB system and primer. A fairing coat was then applied to create a suitable surface for the final finish.
Applying the Final Finish
The repaired areas were finished with a UV stable external textured paint, helping the repairs blend with the existing building while providing a durable exterior finish.
The window frames were no ready for new window panes to be installed.

The Result
The completed repairs restored the damaged concrete around the cast iron window frame while retaining the character of the original Art Deco house. The finished result provided a clean, durable repair while preserving the appearance of the existing building.
